#1 In New England... #2 In the Nation!
December 22, 2010
Previous Article | Next ArticleIt's official... Shawn Smith is the #1 Ranked NAGA competitor for 2010 (age 30-39 Gi)! Actually he also stands #2 in the Nation for this same category! For those who don't know, NAGA is the North American Grappling Association, and is one of the largest and most active grappling tournament organizations in the country. To be "ranked" one needs to compete in tournaments held by NAGA in various places and you earn points for placement in each event. Well Shawn has become a very common face at these events and his hard work has paid off. What is particularly remarkable about this accomplishment is that you can't just gain this ranked status by winning a few events. You have to show up, put it on the line, and perform at the highest levels on a regular basis.

Many of us will be looking forward to class with Shawn to get the details from last weekend's NAGA event where he took home the Silver.

the Brazilian
Thanks guys! I was pretty psyched--I knew a medal at this last show would move me to the top so it was a lot of pressure. The points for the event haven't been added yet but when they are I should officially move to #1. I'll be getting a "Ranked" certificate and be listed in "Gladiator" magazine. And best of all I did it by finally beating a "real" Brazilian (from American Top Team).
Thanks to all my training partners for helping me get ready. And I can't wait for you guys to come next time.
FOUNDRY!!!
